The French Cafe Wedding Cocktail Hour

The cold dreary days of Winter have us pining for the warm sidewalk cafes of Paris. The “French Cafe Wedding Cocktail Hour” is inspired by past travel adventures to Paris and the acclaimed musical series Hôtel Costes, Buddha Bar, Café del Mar, and Putumayo. Our new cocktail hour playlist, curated by DJ Gregg Ambient, is a nod to romantic old Europe, Parisian sidewalk cafes and swank Euro-lounges. The set starts downtempo and folksy, later adding jazzy, electronic acts before finishing with an upbeat flourish. Sample music acts include the Gotan Project, Thievery Corporation, Nicola Conte, Gabin, and Grace Jones.

For a signature drink, we suggest a Mimosa (equal parts fresh orange juice and dry sparkling wine), or if you’re feeling more daring, a “Death in the Afternoon” - a cocktail championed by novelist Ernest Hemingway that combines champagne with a jigger of absinthe. Note: absinthe (aka, “the green fairy”) is making a comeback in U.S. cocktail bars after being banned for nearly 100 years due to the psychoactive effects of wormwood. Absinthe sold in the U.S. today contains less than ten parts per million of thujone - the compound in wormwood that’s dangerous in high doses but considered safe and non-hallucinogenic at these small levels.
