The Brazilian Wedding Cocktail Hour
Some twenty five years ago - and prior to becoming a DJ - I hosted dinner/cocktail parties at home. My favorite album for these intimate gatherings was sax legend Stan Getz’s “Bossa Nova” with delightful tracks like The Girl from Ipanema, So Danca Samba, and Chega de Saudade. While I’ve yet to visit Brazil or Rio, the music and imagery of Brazil has always captured my imagination.
The cocktail hour set starts with Brazilian classics, before branching off into Brazilian melodies set in modern electronic wrappers, upbeat Carnival music and concluding with Baile Funk. In the set, I’ve included our DJ Cloak Dagger’s original composition “Ale Sofi (Captain Planet Remix)” which was selected for inclusion into the acclaimed Buddha Bar series. While Ale Sofi is sung in Spanish and has flamenco influences, the song matches the mood of the set and enhances the vibe. The Spotify playlist and continuous DJ mix below have similar but not identical track lists.
For a selected signature drink, we’ve selected Brazil’s national cocktail “The Caipirinha” which uses cachaca (Brazilian liquor distilled from sugar cane), sugar and muddled limes over ice. So refreshing!
